Teen mom who chose son’s birth over cancer treatment dies

She chose her son. Brianna refused treatment and carried her pregnancy with fierce determination and love. But fate dealt another cruel hand. A severe blood infection forced doctors to perform an emergency C-section, and her son, Kyden, was born three months premature. He survived just 12 days.

“They were the best 12 days of my life,” Brianna later told Femail, in an emotional interview. “I held him, counted his fingers and toes, spoke to him just like I did when he was in my tummy. He gave me the strength to keep going.”

Despite losing her child, Brianna clung to hope. Her condition showed early signs of improvement. She fought to regain strength, relearn movement, and prepare for a bone marrow transplant from her brother. She made a promise to her son that she would keep fighting — and she meant it.

But leukemia is relentless.

As her health declined, doctors halted the transplant and introduced a new trial drug, costing $3,000 a week. With remarkable effort, her family raised the funds. Brianna began the treatment — but managed only two rounds before her body could no longer go on.

She passed away on December 29, 2018, at the age of 19.

Brianna’s story is one of unimaginable loss — but also of unimaginable love. Her sacrifice, her courage, her dignity in the face of pain, leave behind a legacy that cannot be forgotten. She lived and died as a mother who gave everything.
