Heartbreaking Video Shows 20-Year-Old Woman’s Final Moments Shortly Before She Found Dead

What began as a carefree day on the water turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for the loved ones of Ashley Gil, a 20-year-old woman from Texas whose life was cut short in a jet ski accident on Lake Houston.

Ashley disappeared on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17, after she fell off a jet ski near Deussen Park — a popular recreation area northeast of downtown Houston. Authorities launched a frantic search that stretched into the night and continued for two days. On Thursday, June 19, the Houston Police Department confirmed that her body had been recovered from the lake.

According to local station KHOU 11, Ashley was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the fall. The jet ski she was on was carrying multiple people, and details about what led to her falling into the water remain unclear.

Ashley’s death comes with a chilling and deeply emotional detail: just hours before she vanished, she had sent a cheerful video to her boyfriend, Jason Rodriguez, showing herself riding the jet ski, smiling and laughing in the sun.

Jason, who was out of town for work on the day of the incident, told ABC 13 Houston that he received the video around noon. In it, Ashley appeared to be wearing a life vest — a detail that raises further questions about the timeline of events leading to her disappearance. The discrepancy between what she was wearing in the video and what authorities reported has left loved ones confused and desperate for answers.

“We just want to understand what happened,” Jason said, expressing the pain and uncertainty now shadowing Ashley’s family and friends.

Authorities have not yet confirmed Ashley’s official cause of death. The Harris County medical examiner is conducting an autopsy, and Houston Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

In the wake of the tragedy, Deussen Park was temporarily closed to assist with the recovery efforts. A press release from the office of Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis on June 18 stated that the park would remain closed while rescue teams conducted underwater search operations. On June 19, Commissioner Ellis confirmed the devastating outcome: “A young woman’s body has been recovered. My heart goes out to her family, her loved ones, and all who are affected by this terrible loss.”

Ashley’s sister, Kathy Gil, has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help their mother cover funeral costs and other unexpected expenses. The fundraiser paints a moving picture of a vibrant young woman who left behind a lasting legacy of warmth and love.

“Ashley was a bright light in the lives of so many,” the GoFundMe reads. “She was full of love, laughter, and kindness. Her spirit touched everyone she met, and her absence has left a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.”

As the investigation continues, Ashley’s family is left grappling not only with profound grief but with unanswered questions — about the safety protocols in place, the actions of others on the jet ski, and how a day meant for joy turned into an irreparable loss.
