Rep. Lauren Boebert’s eldest son, 20-year-old Tyler Boebert, is facing fresh legal trouble after being cited for misdemeanor child abuse—marking yet another run-in with the law for the congresswoman’s family.
According to Westword, Tyler received a citation on July 11 for “criminal negligence where no death or injury occurred,” in connection with an incident involving Boebert’s young grandson. Specifics of the event remain undisclosed, but the congresswoman described it as “a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house.”
The Rifle Police Department issued the citation, and questions remain about whether this latest charge could affect Tyler’s previous legal agreements. In early 2024, he struck a plea deal after being charged with over a dozen felonies tied to gas station thefts and use of stolen credit cards. That agreement granted him a two-year deferred judgment—meaning his record would be cleared if he stayed out of trouble for 24 months.
This new case could complicate that.
Tyler’s legal issues stretch back further. In 2022, he flipped an SUV into a creek bed and was cited for careless driving after his passenger suffered serious injuries. That charge was later reduced to a vehicle equipment violation as part of another plea deal. Then in early 2023, Tyler accused his father, Jayson Boebert—Lauren Boebert’s now ex-husband—of assaulting him while carrying a rifle. Jayson was arrested and charged with six crimes, including several domestic violence-related offenses.
In a statement to Westword, Boebert stood by her son:
“Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year. Unfortunately, this event stems from a miscommunication… There was no injury or physical abuse involved.”
She added that her family has “already met with CPS to ensure we are continuing to provide a safe environment for my boys and my grandson.”
The congresswoman, 38, is no stranger to controversy herself. Known for her far-right rhetoric and fierce MAGA alignment, Boebert has made headlines for heckling President Biden during the State of the Union, bringing a loaded gun into Congress, and being ejected from a Denver theater for vaping and inappropriate behavior during a show.
With her son once again in legal crosshairs, the Boebert family’s troubles continue to raise questions—not just about personal responsibility, but about the political optics of a MAGA firebrand preaching “family values” while her own household remains under public scrutiny.
