Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is doubling down on explosive accusations against former President Barack Obama, claiming his administration masterminded a “treasonous conspiracy” to fabricate links between Donald Trump and Russian election interference in 2016.
In a bombshell report released July 17, Gabbard alleged that Obama and top intelligence officials manipulated U.S. agencies to frame Trump, demanding that Obama, ex-FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and others be prosecuted. The report cites a 2017 House Intelligence Committee document, which Gabbard claims undermines the official narrative pushed by Obama-era intelligence agencies.
Obama’s camp swiftly responded, with spokesman Patrick Rodenbush calling the claims “bizarre,” “ridiculous,” and “a weak attempt at distraction”—especially amid growing outrage over the Justice Department’s Epstein findings, which concluded the disgraced financier died by suicide and had no “client list.”
But Gabbard isn’t backing down.
Appearing on Fox & Friends, she said:
“President Obama’s carefully worded deflection ignores the core truth. Either they were complicit in creating false intelligence—or completely failed in their duty to vet its origins.”
She further insisted the Obama administration leaned heavily on the now-debunked Steele dossier to justify investigations into Trump’s campaign, branding the entire effort as “seditious” and “treasonous.”
The Russia–Trump Narrative Under Fire
While intelligence agencies under Obama never claimed Russia changed votes in 2016, they did conclude Moscow sought to influence voters in Trump’s favor. Those conclusions were reaffirmed in a 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report led by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.
Gabbard’s report seeks to dismantle that narrative. She argues that the intelligence was cooked, politicized, and used as a weapon to undermine the incoming Trump presidency—a claim now championed by Trump himself.
Trump has reposted clips from The Mark Levin Show highlighting Gabbard’s allegations, and on Truth Social, he demanded journalists investigate what he called “the biggest political scandal in American history.”
Epstein Angle Looms in the Background
Gabbard’s attack also comes amid conservative fury over the Justice Department’s recent report on Jeffrey Epstein’s death. Many MAGA supporters believe the suicide conclusion is a cover-up—and Gabbard’s critics say her timing is strategic.
Obama’s spokesman accused her of trying to shift public attention away from the Epstein scandal, calling it “constant nonsense and misinformation.”
Still, Gabbard is urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to open criminal investigations into former Obama-era officials, accusing them of orchestrating an intelligence coup to derail Trump.
“The American people deserve the truth,” Gabbard said. “This wasn’t just political dirty tricks—it was a betrayal of our democracy at the highest levels.”
As the battle escalates between Trump allies and the Obama legacy, Gabbard has made it clear: she’s not just throwing punches—she’s aiming for indictments.
