Football Star Found Shot at Home – What Happened Has Everyone in Shock

Missouri State University is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old football player Todric McGee, who died early Saturday following an apparent accidental shooting.

According to the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to a wellness check on Friday at an apartment complex near campus and discovered McGee suffering from what appeared to be an accidental gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but sadly passed away hours later.

McGee, a native of Wichita, Kansas, was a standout safety for the Missouri State Bears and had just entered his fifth season with the team. He had been a starting player for the 2023 and 2024 seasons and was well-regarded both on and off the field.

“This tragedy has shaken our football program to the core,” said Missouri State Athletic Director Patrick Ransdell in a heartfelt statement. “We want the team and Todric’s loved ones to know we are here to support them in every way during this incredibly difficult time.”

Head coach Ryan Beard also shared his grief, asking for privacy on behalf of McGee’s family and teammates.

“Our football family is in shock and mourning the loss of Todric,” Beard said. “Please join us in praying for him and all those who loved him.”

McGee was majoring in Exercise & Movement Science at MSU. He is survived by his parents, Stephanie Pope and Amiel McGee, as well as his siblings, Chaquil and Tahlia.

The police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
