Girl, 4, Killed in ‘Dog Attack’ After 53-Year-Old Woman in the Same Home…

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Huntingburg, Indiana, where 4-year-old Evelynn Lopez lost her life in a horrific dog attack that occurred moments after her guardian, 53-year-old Oliva Mora Regalado, suffered a fatal medical emergency.

Police were called to a home on Monday, April 14, after both Evelynn and Regalado were found unresponsive. First responders desperately tried life-saving measures, but only Evelynn could be rushed to a nearby hospital—where she was tragically pronounced dead. Regalado, meanwhile, was declared dead at the scene.

An autopsy later revealed that Regalado died from a sudden medical event caused by a pre-existing health condition. Authorities believe that following her collapse, the dogs inside the home turned on Evelynn, attacking the little girl while she was alone and vulnerable.

Inside the residence, investigators found six pit bulls and a poodle mix. For the safety of responders and to preserve evidence, the animals were sedated and euthanized on-site.

No criminal charges will be filed, according to the Huntingburg Police Department.

Evelynn, remembered by her family as “a walking ray of sunshine,” had big sparkling eyes, a contagious laugh, and a boundless love for life. She enjoyed t-ball, soccer, gymnastics, and dancing—often helping her mother in the kitchen with joy.

“She touched everyone she met with her joyful personality,” the family wrote in her obituary. “Instead of flowers, we ask you to take a moment to hug someone you love, take a walk in the woods, or simply hold onto what matters. Time waits for no one.”

Regalado, too, was lovingly remembered as “sweet, kind, and gentle,” someone who lived for her family, found joy in cooking new recipes, and loved dancing and walking.

This tragedy has left a community in mourning and serves as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be—even in the most ordinary moments.
