Obama Could Be Compelled to Testify Before Grand Jury Over ‘Russiagate’: Report
Investigative journalist John Solomon of Just the News has reported that former President Barack Obama may now be compelled to testify before a grand jury regarding the Russiagate investigation. According to Solomon, Obama cannot invoke the Fifth Amendment to refuse testimony due to prior protections granted by presidential immunity.
Solomon explained Wednesday evening that once summoned, Obama would be required to testify under oath. Should he misrepresent or lie about any aspect of his official conduct, his presidential immunity could be revoked immediately. Such an act, committed as a private citizen, would strip away the legal protections he previously enjoyed under the Constitution and judicial precedent.
The controversy centers on a January 5, 2017, White House meeting where Obama presided over discussions following the FBI’s closure of its investigation into incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Solomon alleges that senior officials in that meeting devised a plan to lure Flynn into an interview, catch him in a lie, and prosecute him for making false statements.
Former FBI Director James Comey has publicly admitted to assisting in setting that trap—a fact confirmed by legal filings and multiple reports.
Now, Solomon warns, Obama could face a similar situation to one he allegedly helped orchestrate.
“I know President Trump has every right to be frustrated with him,” Solomon said on Real America’s Voice. “I think President Trump’s analysis last week was right. ‘I think my immunity rule might protect him on the original charges.’”
“That’s what most legal experts tell me—that ruling is so sweeping it will protect Obama for what he did in office. However, Barack Obama can now be summoned before a grand jury,” Solomon continued. “He cannot take the Fifth Amendment because he has immunity from prosecution. He’ll have to tell the truth.”
“If he lies as a private citizen about what he did as President, he’ll no longer have that immunity,” Solomon added, describing it as a potential legal “trap.”
Solomon underscored the irony: on January 5, 2017, Obama presided over a meeting where the FBI had just cleared Flynn of wrongdoing. “They schemed in that meeting how they might be able to jam up Mike Flynn,” Solomon said. “They came up with the idea: ‘We’ll lure him into an interview, catch him in a lie, and then prosecute him that way.’ Barack Obama is now about to face a potentially similar situation—one he unfairly created for Mike Flynn.”
Meanwhile, Democrats are urging Obama to avoid becoming involved as Trump officials release documents accusing the Obama administration of trying to “rig” the 2016 election.
Some Democratic insiders believe events like Tulsi Gabbard’s recent appearance at a White House briefing are intended to mislead the public. Democratic strategist Eddie Vale commented, “No matter how much Trump and Fox are trying to drag it up, the base is still tearing them apart on the Epstein documents, so no need to interrupt them punching themselves in the face.”
Gabbard recently released a trove of documents she claims prove the Obama administration fabricated the Russia interference narrative in 2016.
President Trump quickly seized on the release, telling reporters in the Oval Office, “Look, he’s guilty. It’s not a question. You know, I like to say, ‘Let’s give it time.’ It’s there. He’s guilty. This was treason, this was every word you can think of.”
