A West Virginia community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a young mother and her son, who were both killed in a devastating rollover crash earlier this week.
Keyonna Norman, 24, and her 9-year-old son, Kingston, died when their vehicle veered off State Route 49 in Mingo County and plunged down a steep hillside, ultimately landing on a set of railroad tracks, according to reports from MetroNews, WCHS (ABC), and WSAZ (NBC).
Authorities say neither Keyonna nor her son was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which is believed to have occurred on the evening of Tuesday, June 17. The wreckage, however, was not discovered until the following morning.
“We aren’t sure if the rain Tuesday night had anything to do with it,” Mingo County Sheriff’s Chief Field Deputy Allen Mounts told WOWK-TV, adding that conditions may have played a role in the vehicle’s loss of control.
