On January 27, 2025, the Department of Justice circulated a formal notice to the affected prosecutors. These individuals, according to the DOJ, had been involved in prosecutorial efforts against President Trump during the Biden administration. In the announcement, then-Acting Attorney General James McHenry argued that their continued presence within the Department was incompatible with impartial governance.
