The political landscape was rocked this week following the abrupt dismissal of a group of progressive prosecutors who had been involved in legal actions against President Trump. The Department of Justice, under the direction of Attorney General Bondi, issued an order declaring their immediate removal from office. The decision, swiftly praised by conservatives online, has been hailed as a major move by the Trump administration to cleanse the DOJ of figures aligned with former Special Counsel Jack Smith.

On January 27, 2025, the Department of Justice circulated a formal notice to the affected prosecutors. These individuals, according to the DOJ, had been involved in prosecutorial efforts against President Trump during the Biden administration. In the announcement, then-Acting Attorney General James McHenry argued that their continued presence within the Department was incompatible with impartial governance. She asserted that their prior conduct had damaged the DOJ’s credibility and eroded trust in its ability to function fairly and independently.

The notice, reportedly sent via internal email, included a statement attributed to President Trump. In it, the President condemned what he described as a deliberate and coordinated campaign by the previous administration to target political opponents. “The American People watched the former administration weaponize institutions against those it saw as enemies,” he stated. “Investigations, prosecutions, civil actions—used not in pursuit of justice, but in pursuit of power.”

AG McHenry expanded on the President’s comments, labeling the prior efforts against Trump as “unprecedented.” She singled out the dismissed prosecutors, stating bluntly: “You played a crucial role in the prosecution of President Trump.” McHenry emphasized that their deep entanglement in those prosecutions compromised their ability to serve the current administration with loyalty and integrity.
