In the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s dramatic and unannounced airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Democrats in Washington are once again sounding the alarm on impeachment, citing a lack of Congressional authorization. The move, however, rings familiar—and for many, deeply hypocritical.
Leading the charge is Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who declared the strikes “not constitutional” and demanded a vote under the War Powers Resolution. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries echoed the sentiment, decrying the president’s decision to act without consulting Congress, calling it “erratic” and “reckless.”
“No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war,” Schumer stated.
But critics are quick to point out that this indignation is selective—and that similar actions by Democratic presidents were met with silence or support from the very same voices now calling for Trump’s removal from office.
