In a striking rebuke of the Democratic Party’s open-border agenda, a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll reveals that a commanding majority of Americans support President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies — including mass deportation of criminal illegal aliens and a firm closure of the southern border.
According to the survey, 75% of registered voters back Trump’s push to deport criminal illegal immigrants — a clear sign that the public is fed up with sanctuary policies and weak enforcement. Even more telling, 60% support his efforts to shut down the southern border to stop the ongoing crisis.
These numbers eviscerate the left’s repeated claim that Americans favor lax border control and unchecked immigration. The reality: voters want order, security, and the rule of law.
The poll, which surveyed 2,044 registered voters between July 6–8, also found that 65% oppose “sanctuary cities” shielding convicted criminal aliens from deportation — a stance that cuts across party lines:

69% of Independents
72% of Republicans
Even more damning for the Biden administration, 67% of respondents believe the U.S. border is open under current leadership, and 69% say it’s intentional policy — not incompetence, but a deliberate strategy.
While a slim majority (52%) still frame Democratic resistance to deportations as a “human rights” issue, that number likely reflects the emotional framing often used by media and activist groups. However, 59% say more due process is needed — a view that could shift dramatically if voters realized the years-long backlog that clogs the current immigration system.
The broader takeaway? Democrats’ relentless push for open borders and blanket amnesty is not just unpopular — it’s politically toxic.
Even more surprising is that these results come from Harvard’s polling unit — not exactly known for favoring President Trump. Yet the numbers speak for themselves.
Despite decades of media-driven spin, a majority of Americans reject the idea that the U.S. should serve as a haven for millions of unvetted migrants who ignore our laws and strain public resources.
The poll’s attempt to differentiate between “illegal aliens” and “criminal illegal aliens” misses the fundamental point: illegal entry is a crime. By definition, those who cross the border unlawfully are breaking federal law and should face the consequences.
Allowing mass defiance of immigration law sends a dangerous message — one that undermines sovereignty, punishes lawful immigrants, and disrespects every taxpaying American.
Meanwhile, the left continues to prioritize illegal immigrants over struggling U.S. citizens. As veterans, the homeless, and working-class Americans face record inflation and shrinking access to services, the Democratic establishment turns its focus to foreign nationals who broke the law to enter the country.
This isn’t compassion — it’s betrayal.
And according to this new Harvard poll, the American people are finally saying: enough.
