President Donald Trump is facing intense backlash from his own supporters after a Truth Social post on Saturday defended Attorney General Pam Bondi and downplayed the relevance of the Jeffrey Epstein files—urging Americans to “not waste Time and Energy” on the convicted sex offender.
The message struck a nerve with MAGA loyalists, many of whom had long considered uncovering Epstein’s alleged web of powerful co-conspirators a priority under Trump’s leadership.
“President Trump rarely loses touch with what’s happening among the base, but he’s missing the pulse on this one,” wrote conservative activist Robby Starbuck on X.
“@realDonaldTrump please understand the EPSTEIN AFFAIR is not going away,” echoed Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser. “If the administration doesn’t address the massive number of unanswered questions about Epstein … then moving forward on so many other monumental challenges our nation is facing becomes much harder.”
The pushback wasn’t limited to high-profile voices. Thousands of grassroots Trump supporters flooded the replies on Truth Social, with comments overwhelmingly outnumbering likes and reposts.
“This statement breaks my heart, Mr. President… Please reconsider, sir,” wrote one user, @Rosie0226. “Accountability was not something negotiable.”
“This is going to cost you so many supporters. I being one of them,” added @trustds1.
Even Elon Musk weighed in, amplifying a post that described Trump’s defense of Bondi as potentially “the worst post ever made.” Musk added bluntly:
“Just release the files as promised.”
Fallout from DOJ Memo Fuels Anger
The uproar follows a recent Justice Department and FBI memo which concluded there is no evidence Jeffrey Epstein was murdered, nor any indication he kept a “client list” of high-profile accomplices—two claims that Trump-era officials once aggressively promoted.
FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino had previously fueled speculation, with Bongino openly casting doubt on the suicide narrative and Bondi stating during a February Fox News appearance that the alleged client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review.”
But the July memo directly contradicts those earlier assertions, sparking accusations of betrayal from within the MAGA ranks. What many once saw as a deep-state cover-up by Democrats is now being pinned on Trump’s own administration.
“The lack of actual results at the DOJ and lack of transparency that translates into incompetence will cost the GOP House and Senate seats,” wrote Trump-aligned commentator Laura Loomer on X.
As calls intensify for full transparency, Trump now finds himself walking a tightrope between loyalty to his administration and the demands of a base that feels disillusioned—and in some cases, outright deceived.
