AOC Blasts Libs of TikTok and GOP Over Trans Healthcare Disinformation as Trump Signs Controversial Executive Order on Gender Policy

In a fiery exchange during a congressional hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) launched a sharp rebuke against the social media account Libs of TikTok, accusing it of spreading disinformation that led to real-world threats against transgender healthcare providers.

The incident, highlighted in a January 28, 2025, post by Libs of TikTok on X, included footage of AOC condemning what she described as a “coordinated campaign of harassment” targeting hospitals that offer transgender surgeries to minors. The Congresswoman didn’t stop at the account itself—she expanded her criticism to include the Republican Party at large.

“Are you familiar with the Libs of TikTok account?” she asked a witness. “Are you aware that from August 11 to August 16, that account falsely claimed Boston Children’s Hospital was performing hysterectomies on children?”

She emphasized that these unfounded allegations had been amplified by prominent right-wing voices, and that the rhetoric escalated into a bomb threat against the hospital.

“This account is still active, correct? Despite inciting violence that led to a bomb threat?” she continued. “This is what happens when right-wing ideologues fixate on attacking trans Americans, immigrants, women of color—anyone who isn’t like them.”

AOC’s comments came amid growing Democratic backlash to President Donald Trump’s newly signed executive order aimed at reversing gender identity policies in federal institutions. The order, which seeks to reestablish biological sex as a legal and policy standard across federal agencies, has sparked outrage among LGBTQ+ advocates and progressive lawmakers.

The White House defended the move with pointed language:

“Across the country, ideologues have used legal and social pressure to allow men to self-identify as women and gain access to female-only spaces—ranging from domestic abuse shelters to workplace showers.”

The executive order argues that denying the biological basis of sex is a direct attack on women’s rights, stating that erasing sex from law and language “undermines the dignity, safety, and well-being of women.”

In its most striking passage, the order reads:

“Replacing the biological reality of sex with a subjective sense of identity dismantles protections designed for women, upends long-standing legal principles, and weakens public trust in science and government alike.”

The Trump administration vowed to “defend freedom of conscience” and reinforce the use of clear, biologically grounded definitions in federal policy, stating that women must be recognized as biologically female and men as biologically male to preserve legal clarity and integrity.

While many conservatives praised the move as a necessary correction to what they view as “ideological overreach,” progressive lawmakers, including AOC, denounced it as a calculated assault on transgender Americans.

“This is not about protecting anyone,” AOC said. “It’s about wielding government power to marginalize and erase vulnerable communities.”

With the executive order now in effect, and cultural tensions running high, the clash over gender identity and civil liberties shows no signs of slowing. As political lines harden, both sides are framing the debate not merely as a policy disagreement—but as a battle over the very definition of truth.
