Several people dead after driver plows into crowd at popular street festival

A devastating tragedy struck Vancouver on Saturday night when a vehicle plowed into a crowd attending a Filipino cultural festival, killing several people and leaving many others injured, according to local authorities.

The horrific incident unfolded around 8:14 p.m. at the intersection of East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street during the Lapu Lapu Day Festival, a vibrant community event celebrating Filipino heritage.

Police confirmed that the driver — a 30-year-old man from Vancouver — was arrested at the scene. His motive remains unclear as investigators work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

“Several people have been killed and multiple others injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival,” Vancouver Police said in a statement posted to social media.

Chaos and Horror at the Scene
Shocking videos and images quickly flooded social media, showing emergency vehicles swarming the area, with injured festivalgoers lying on the road and debris scattered across a wide stretch of pavement. A black SUV with significant front-end damage was seen abandoned near the scene.

“At approximately 8:14 p.m., a man drove into a large crowd of people attending the Lapu Lapu Day Festival near East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street,” the Vancouver Police Department said.
