President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned that if New York City’s Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani defies federal immigration laws, he could face arrest.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump was asked about Mamdani’s campaign pledge to ignore ICE and refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
“Well then, we’ll have to arrest him,” Trump said bluntly.
“We don’t need a communist in this country. But if we have one, I’ll be watching him very carefully — for the good of the nation.”
Trump slammed Mamdani as a far-left radical and took aim at the Biden administration, claiming it has empowered extremist politicians who reject the rule of law.
He also reminded reporters of how much federal money New York City receives, claiming it gets significantly more per capita than Florida.
“They get about three times what you get, Ron. We fund them — we give them everything. And then they tell ICE to stay out? I don’t think so.”
DeSantis agreed, noting that critics often include Social Security numbers in funding stats to obscure how much blue states truly receive from Washington.

Trump didn’t hold back when discussing Mamdani’s biggest supporter, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), mocking her intelligence and influence.
“AOC is out there ranting and raving with her bad IQ about how great Mamdani is,” Trump said.
“And sure, he’s got an advantage — he’s a Democrat in New York City.”
He said Eric Adams — despite his flaws — would be a more reasonable choice for mayor, citing Adams’ recent pushback on the migrant crisis.

On social media, Trump had already reacted to Mamdani’s primary win with fury:
“It’s finally happened — the Democrats have crossed the line.”
“Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary… This is getting ridiculous.”
He mocked Mamdani’s voice, appearance, and intelligence, accusing him of being backed by “AOC + 3” and “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer,” whom he sarcastically called “our Great Palestinian Senator.”

Critics describe Mamdani as one of the most radical figures to ever seek public office in a major U.S. city. His platform includes:
State-owned grocery stores
Defunding the police
Banning private gun ownership
Prioritizing tax hikes on white neighborhoods
Support for illegal immigration
Alleged sympathy for radical Islam
Even his own mother once admitted he didn’t consider himself American during college.
With that background, Trump’s warning is clear: if Mamdani wins and violates federal law, he could face serious consequences.
“We’re watching him. Closely,” Trump said.
“And we’ll do what needs to be done.”
