Tilman Fertitta, 68, a hospitality mogul and owner of the Houston Rockets, was tapped by President Donald Trump for the ambassadorship in December and confirmed by the Senate in April. His assigned residence, the historic fifteenth-century Villa Taverna, has been the official home for U.S. envoys to Italy since 1933.
