Former President Donald Trump launched into a late-night Truth Social rant Friday, taking aim at Geoff Duncan, the former Republican lieutenant governor of Georgia who officially switched to the Democratic Party this week.
“Failed former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, of Georgia, is a total loser,” Trump wrote just after 1 a.m. Eastern, adding: “Was never able to get anything done, all he ever did was complain. We didn’t want him in the Republican Party any longer, so I’m told he became a Democrat. Good riddance Geoff. You don’t even have a chance!!!”
Duncan, once a Trump voter in 2020, broke with the former president after the election, refusing to back Trump’s false claims of fraud. He also resisted pressure to help overturn Georgia’s results — a stance that put him in the same firing line as Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans who later won reelection despite Trump’s attacks.
The Georgia GOP expelled Duncan in January. He’s since become a fixture in the media, blasting Trump’s character and political influence. In 2023, he described Trump as having “a moral compass more like an ax murderer than a president,” and last month likened his grip on the GOP to “a rogue cult leader” hijacking a church.
Duncan even spoke at the Democratic National Convention last year to endorse then–Vice President Kamala Harris, fueling speculation that he may run for Georgia governor in 2026 when Kemp is term-limited.
