The Epstein ‘Hoax’: Trump Reveals His Decision on Appointing a Special Prosecutor as Leavitt Mocks Renewed Interest

The White House clarified Thursday that President Donald Trump has no intention of appointing a special prosecutor to reopen the Jeffrey Epstein case — a striking reversal from just one day earlier, when Trump suggested the idea amid pressure from his MAGA base.

“The president would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. That’s how he feels,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Daily Mail during the daily briefing.

Leavitt emphasized that Trump remains confident in the Justice Department’s handling of the case, calling its investigation “exhaustive” and praising Attorney General Pam Bondi, the FBI, and GOP-aligned figures like Dan Bongino and Kash Patel as “great patriots” trusted by the Republican movement.

Mixed Signals from Trump on Epstein Files
Just a day earlier, Trump had entertained the idea of reopening the Epstein files, telling JustTheNews.com that a new special prosecutor could “look at all of it,” including what he called the “Jeffrey Epstein hoax.” He compared it to the Steele dossier, saying it was another narrative “put out by Democrats.”

“It’s all the same scam,” Trump said. “They ought to look into the Jeffrey Epstein hoax too.”

He raised concerns about evidence tampering by former intelligence and law enforcement officials and expressed frustration that some Republicans were still focused on Epstein.

Frustration with His Own Supporters
In recent days, Trump has shown growing irritation with supporters who remain fixated on Epstein, despite the Justice Department’s finding that there is no evidence Epstein was murdered in prison or that a “client list” exists for public release.

“I’ve lost a lot of faith in certain people… because they got duped by the Democrats,” he told reporters Wednesday from the Oval Office.

In a blunt social media post, Trump accused some of his former supporters of falling for what he called the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.”

“My PAST supporters have bought into this bullshit, hook, line, and sinker… Let these weaklings do the Democrats’ work. I don’t want their support anymore,” he wrote.

Trump has repeatedly tried to downplay the Epstein case, calling it “boring” and expressing disbelief that people still care.

“He’s been dead a long time,” Trump said Tuesday. “I don’t understand why the Epstein case would be of interest to anybody.”

Democrats, Pardons, and Political Theater
Meanwhile, congressional Democrats have seized on the issue, accusing Trump of backpedaling and even suggesting he’s attempting a cover-up — claims the White House has dismissed as politically motivated.

Leavitt hit back, mocking Democrats for their “newfound” interest in Epstein.

“They controlled the White House for four years and did nothing about transparency in the Epstein case,” she said.

The White House also ruled out any chance of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in trafficking minors.

“There have been no discussions or consideration of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, and there never will be,” a senior White House official told the Daily Mail.
