Hoover Police responded to reports of a shooting between two employees at Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux on Tattersall Park Drive shortly after 1:40 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 14, according to ABC affiliate WBMA.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a pregnant woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently in stable condition and expected to survive. However, her unborn child did not survive the injury.
Lt. Daniel Lowe of the Hoover Police Department told AL.com that the suspect in the shooting is a 36-year-old man. While the investigation is still ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that reckless behavior with a firearm on the part of the suspect played a key role in the incident.
Lowe added that police are working closely with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and expect formal charges to be filed on Monday, June 16.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released and will remain undisclosed until charges are officially filed. He is currently being held in the Hoover City Jail, according to CBS affiliate WIAT.
Efforts to reach the Hoover Police Department for comment on Sunday, June 15, have so far gone unanswered.
