Multiple Missing, Hundreds Affected After Fireworks Factory Explodes

Seven people remain missing following a devastating explosion at a fireworks warehouse in Esparto, a rural town northwest of Sacramento, California. The blast occurred late Tuesday afternoon, sending fireworks shooting in all directions before the building was consumed by flames.

According to NBC News, multiple structures were already on fire when emergency crews arrived at the scene. Dramatic video footage captured fireworks erupting from the warehouse moments before a massive explosion rocked the area.

“Seven individuals remain unaccounted for,” the Esparto Fire Protection District and the California State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed in a joint statement. “First responders and investigators are working closely with the property owner to determine their whereabouts.”

The explosion triggered evacuations across parts of Yolo County. Officials noted that hazard assessments are ongoing and expressed hope that displaced residents may soon be allowed to return home.

“Our goal is to reduce the evacuation zone footprint as quickly and safely as possible,” the agencies said.

The fire scorched nearly 80 acres of surrounding agricultural land, according to the Associated Press. While no fatalities have been confirmed, the emotional toll on the local community is mounting.

Nisa Gutierrez, a nearby resident, described the terrifying moment the explosion struck: “We heard a big boom and felt the wave. I thought it was a bomb,” she told AP, adding that the blast blew open the doors of her home and damaged the frames.

Investigators are now focusing on Devastating Pyrotechnics, the company that owns the facility. Authorities believe the business holds a valid pyrotechnics license and are working to verify compliance.

“As part of our investigation, we will determine whether all operations at the site were conducted within the bounds of the license,” officials stated.

Devastating Pyrotechnics issued a public statement acknowledging the incident and expressing support for those affected:

“Our hearts and thoughts are with those we lost, their families, and everyone impacted in our community. Our focus will remain on those directly impacted by this tragedy, and we will cooperate fully with the proper authorities in their investigation.”

As the search continues, families wait anxiously for news. Syanna Ruiz, a pregnant mother whose boyfriend was working his first day on the job at the warehouse, voiced the anguish shared by many:

“I’m just praying to God that somehow, some way, they’re OK,” she told AP.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
