A devastating aviation tragedy has shaken India, after a passenger aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of 247 people. Most of the victims were medical students who were inside a residential building struck by the aircraft in its fatal descent. According to the preliminary report issued by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) of India, the crash was caused by an unusual technical defect in the captain’s seat of the Boeing 787, which had recently undergone repairs but had not been subjected to necessary safety testing.
