A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of the brutal 2022 murder of his 6-year-old son, whom he beat to death for drinking from a toilet.
Larry Rhodes Jr., now 25, was arrested on July 5, 2022, after first responders found his son unresponsive, his head submerged in a toilet bowl. Rhodes and his girlfriend, Bianca Blaise, 28, initially claimed the boy may have drowned — but investigators quickly uncovered a far more disturbing truth.
According to Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, the couple became enraged after catching the thirsty child drinking from the toilet. The mother allegedly struck him first, and Rhodes then followed by savagely punching the 6-year-old multiple times in the head and stomach with closed fists.
“This was a 6-year-old child,” Sheriff Lopez said during a press conference. “Maybe he was thirsty. He went to the toilet. He was trying to survive. Mama caught him — and the poor guy paid the price.”
Hotel guests reported hearing a loud thud coming from the room where the couple lived with their six children. During questioning, Blaise admitted she sometimes “whooped” the kids and noted they often imitated wrestling and UFC-style fights seen on TV.
Blaise was arrested and charged with child neglect, while Rhodes faced more serious charges. In December 2024, a grand jury indicted him on first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and four counts of child abuse related to the death of his son and the mistreatment of his other children.
After a trial, Rhodes was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus an additional 35 years.
The tragic case shocked the community and raised serious questions about ongoing child abuse and neglect.
