Gingrich Warns Democrats’ ‘Dangerous’ Attacks on Trump Could Have Serious Consequences
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning that Democrats’ increasingly heated rhetoric toward former President Donald Trump could lead to “very dangerous” consequences.
Speaking on Fox News, Gingrich rejected House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ claim that Republicans are “on the run,” arguing instead that Democrats are “enraged,” “offer no solutions,” and are resorting to extreme tactics to resist Trump and oppose efforts to rein in government spending.
“You have a hard-line group who believe they have the right to be violent, the right to deny Americans the choice of their leadership, and the right to break the law,” Gingrich said. “The answer is you have to lock them up. You have to enforce the law. Period.”
Gingrich also criticized what he called the “bizarre” behavior of House Democrats during recent public events, saying they refused to applaud even a 13-year-old cancer survivor, a prospective West Point cadet, or grieving families.
He linked the Democrats’ hostility toward Trump to broader public dissatisfaction with Washington, citing a poll by America’s New Majority Project showing 82% of Americans believe the system is corrupt.
“That’s dangerous — for the survival of freedom,” Gingrich said. “Democrats who defend the bureaucracy, the corruption, and the waste have a big mountain to climb in 2026.”
Analyst: Democrats Risk ‘Going Off the Edge’
Polling analyst Matt Towery echoed Gingrich’s concerns on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, warning Democrats are veering toward the same electoral disaster suffered by George McGovern in 1972.
“This is the point where Democrats who know how to run campaigns and understand real voter concerns either take control of the party or it drifts completely off the edge,” Towery said.
He urged Democrats to stop focusing on attacks against Trump and instead promote policies that address voters’ needs. Towery noted that reliable pollsters — including Robert Cahaly of Trafalgar, Rasmussen, and others — show Trump’s approval ratings holding steady despite ongoing controversies.
Party in Trouble with Its Own Base
Recent polling suggests Democrats’ problems extend beyond swing voters. According to a Politico analysis of Quinnipiac University data, congressional Democrats now have net-negative approval ratings among their own voters — a first in the poll’s history.
“The trauma of the 2024 presidential defeat appears to have ruptured that relationship,” Politico reported, warning that Democrats should be “very afraid.”
With internal dissatisfaction rising and outside criticism intensifying, both Gingrich and Towery argue the party risks alienating the public further if it continues its current course.
