Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the couple’s condo on the morning of June 15, where they discovered both bodies. A revolver was found beneath Steven’s body, and investigators believe he shot his wife before turning the gun on himself following an argument about divorce and financial struggles.
Authorities confirmed there had been no prior domestic disturbance calls to the couple’s residence.
Anna is being remembered by colleagues and school officials as a passionate educator and dedicated mother of two daughters.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Amina ‘Anna’ Darbashi Pierce,” said a spokesperson for the Metro Nashville School District in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
Dr. Sue Kessler, principal of Hunters Lane High School, paid tribute to Anna’s impact on the school community: “She enjoyed teaching biology and working with 9th graders because she believed the relationships she built would guide them toward graduation and beyond. She worked tirelessly to grow our tennis program and was admired by her colleagues.”
Kessler also shared that Anna had been pursuing her licensure to become a school principal and often mentored fellow educators in balancing motherhood with teaching.
“We will miss Ms. Pierce’s commitment to kids, her love for our school, and her unwavering dedication,” said Kessler. “Our hearts are with all who loved her.”
