Donald Trump Told Son Don Jr. His Wedding Is ‘Not Good Timing for Me’ but ‘I’m Gonna Try and Make It’

It is the classic dilemma of the modern political dynasty: How do you balance the impending threat of a global conflict with your oldest son’s destination wedding?

If you are President Donald Trump, you handle it with a shrug, a complaint about the media, and a gentle reminder that geopolitics waits for no bride.

As rumors swirl that Donald Trump Jr., 48, and his fiancée, Bettina Anderson, 39, are set to exchange vows over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend in the Bahamas, the commander-in-chief admitted he is still a “maybe” for the guest list. Speaking to reporters about the impending nuptials, the 79-year-old president revealed he gave his son some characteristically blunt feedback about the date selection.

“He’d like me to go,” the president said of Don Jr. “But it’s going to be just a small, little private affair. I’m gonna try and make it.”

He then added, with trademark candor: “I said, ‘You know this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.’ “

For the president, the decision to hop on Air Force One for a family celebration carries more than just logistical headaches—it is a public relations minefield. Currently, his official schedule places him at his summer estate in Bedminster, New Jersey, for the holiday weekend, far from the private island ceremony his son is planning.

“That’s one I can’t win on,” the president lamented. “If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course.”

Despite the scheduling friction, the president offered his blessings to the couple, noting he has known Anderson for a “long time” and wishes them “a great marriage.”

The impending ceremony marks the culmination of a romance that was formalized in high-stakes fashion. Don Jr. and Anderson announced their engagement on December 15, 2025, during a White House holiday event, where the president himself handled the introductions.

Taking the microphone that evening, Don Jr. quipped about his usual public persona. “I’m not usually at a loss for words, because I’m usually doing the ranting and raving really well,” he told attendees. “I want to thank Bettina for that one word: ‘Yes.’ “

Anderson, stepping into the political spotlight, called it “the most unforgettable weekend,” adding, “I get to marry the love of my life, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”

While the couple initially looked at Washington venues, sources say they quickly realized that the optics of a lavish, televised White House wedding would clash harshly with a worsening international landscape.

“They’re very aware that a lavish wedding at the White House while people are dying wouldn’t be well-received,” a source close to the couple told Page Six, which first reported the Bahamas plans.

Instead, the couple opted for an intimate, low-profile ceremony on a private Bahamian island, trading the East Room for the Caribbean sun. It will be the first marriage for Anderson and the second for Don Jr., who shares five children with his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump: Kai, 19; Donald, 17; Tristan, 14; Spencer, 13; and Chloe, 11.

Yet, even as the family prepares for a celebration, the weekend is shadowed by a sobering reality back home. Just days ago, Vanessa Trump publicly revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 48-year-old former model shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, May 20, calling it a “personal health update.”

“While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan,” Vanessa wrote, expressing gratitude for her doctors following a medical procedure earlier in the week.

The announcement prompted a swift wave of family support. The couple’s eldest daughter, Kai Trump, posted a graduation photo with her mother shortly after the announcement, offering a simple, poignant tribute to the woman caught between the family’s public milestones and private battles: “Strongest person I know. Love you.”
