Wade Wilson’s Ex-Boyfriend Christopher Lane Noticed a ‘Sketchy’ Detail When They Started Dating. Inside Their Relationship

Long before Wade Wilson’s name became synonymous with a depraved double homicide that shook Florida to its core, he was just a man moving into an RV in Inverness. But for Christopher Lane, the brief 2019 romance that followed wasn’t just a footnote in a criminal case—it was a terrifying preview of a predator’s true nature.

In a chilling account featured in the second season of Netflix’s docuseries Worst Ex Ever, which debuted this May, Lane pulls back the curtain on a relationship defined by “sketchy” beginnings and a harrowing night of violence that nearly cost him his life.

A Carnival Romance and Red Flags

The pair met in March 2019 while working the carnival circuit. Within a week, the timeline accelerated with a speed that, in retrospect, signaled a lack of boundaries: Wilson moved into Lane’s RV.

Despite Wilson’s insistence that he was straight, Lane recalled a nagging sense of skepticism. “Wade said that he was straight when I met him,” Lane told producers. “But I was like, ‘That seems a little sketchy.’ If you’re straight, you don’t move into a guy’s house… and then want to sleep in his bed.”

The confusion over Wilson’s identity didn’t stop him from asking Lane to make their relationship “Facebook official,” a move that contrasted sharply with his supposed hesitancy about dating men. For a brief moment, the two enjoyed the honeymoon phase of a new romance—going out, having fun, and navigating life on the road together.

Four Hours of Terror

The veneer of normalcy shattered during a night fueled by substances Lane believed to be bath salts. Wilson allegedly spiraled into a paranoid frenzy, claiming someone was breaking into the RV. The delusion quickly turned outward, with Wilson targeting Lane.

According to Lane’s testimony, Wilson threatened to slit his throat before launching into a brutal, four-hour assault. Lane describes being choked and stabbed multiple times in the chest and hand. The ordeal culminated with Wilson physically throwing Lane through a set of sliding glass doors.

Wilson fled the scene, only to reappear the following day accompanied by Lane’s own sister. Covered in blood and projecting a mask of remorse, Wilson apologized. “He seemed sincere,” Lane remarked, a chilling testament to the “Deadpool Killer’s” ability to manipulate those around him.

Bound by the complex psychology of domestic many victims, Lane didn’t report the attack to the police. Instead, the pair moved to Key West a month later. The relationship eventually dissolved when Lane realized Wilson was systematically lying to others about the nature of their involvement.

Foreshadowing a Massacre

The violence Lane experienced in 2019 served as a dark prelude to the events of October that same year. Five months after they parted ways, Wilson began the spree that would earn him his macabre nickname.

He first strangled 35-year-old Kristine Melton in her sleep after a chance meeting at a bar. Hours later, he lured 43-year-old Diane Ruiz into his vehicle, choked her as he drove, and then—in a display of inexplicable cruelty—ran over her body repeatedly.

Wilson was convicted in June 2024 and sentenced to death. While the justice system addressed the murders of Melton and Ruiz, no formal charges were ever brought regarding the alleged assault on Lane.

Life After the ‘Deadpool Killer’

Today, Christopher Lane continues to build a life in Florida, still working within the familiar world of the carnival circuit. For years, he kept his connection to the notorious killer under wraps, only hinting at it on social media in 2024 as public interest in the case surged.

By finally sharing his story on Worst Ex Ever, Lane has moved from a silent witness to a vocal survivor, acknowledging the thin line between his life and the tragic fates of Wilson’s later victims.

“Looking back, the night Wade stabbed me could have ended up very differently,” Lane said. “I could have been dead.”
