Ex-Trump prosecutor Jack Smith under investigation

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) is reportedly preparing to investigate former special prosecutor Jack Smith — the man who spearheaded two criminal probes into President Donald Trump — over allegations that he engaged in prohibited political activity during his investigation.

Smith resigned in January after wrapping up his high-profile cases, later claiming Trump would have been convicted of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States had he not won the 2024 election. But now, the tables have turned.

“I appreciate the Office of Special Counsel taking this seriously and launching an investigation into Jack Smith’s conduct,” OSC Senior Counsel Charles Baldis wrote in a letter obtained by The New York Post, adding bluntly: “No one is above the law.”

The inquiry was sparked by Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who accused Smith of weaponizing his office against Trump for political gain.

“Jack Smith’s legal actions were nothing more than a tool for the Biden and Harris campaigns,” Cotton charged. “This isn’t just unethical — it’s very likely illegal.”
