A devastating turn of events has gripped upstate New York after a 9-year-old Canadian girl, Melina Frattolin, was found dead less than 24 hours after her father reported her missing, triggering a statewide Amber Alert.
On Saturday, Luciano Frattolin, 45, contacted the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, claiming his daughter had been abducted by someone in a white van near Exit 22 in Lake George, a small tourist town nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, roughly 60 miles north of Albany. He said the incident had occurred during a visit to the scenic area, often bustling with summer travelers and families.
The New York State Police (NYSP) responded swiftly, issuing an Amber Alert that warned the public Melina was believed to be in “imminent danger of serious harm or death.” The alert was disseminated across the state via radio, road signs, TV broadcasts, and mobile devices, in hopes of locating the young girl before it was too late.
But by Sunday afternoon, hope gave way to heartbreak. The NYSP announced that Melina had been found dead in Ticonderoga, a small town approximately 45 miles south of where her father had claimed she disappeared. The circumstances of her death are still under investigation, but authorities revealed they now believe no abduction occurred.
