Joe Rogan took a not-so-subtle jab at President Donald Trump during a recent episode of his podcast, suggesting that the country needs a leader with genuine integrity—and he believes he’s found one in liberal Texas state Rep. James Talarico.
On Friday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the influential podcaster heaped praise on the 36-year-old Democrat, a former teacher and devout Christian who has gained attention for his viral social media speeches and outspoken criticism of Christian nationalism. Rogan, once a Trump endorser, even encouraged Talarico to consider a presidential run.
“We need someone who’s actually a good person,” Rogan said pointedly, in a remark widely interpreted as a dig at Trump.
Talarico, who joined the Texas Legislature at just 28, modestly brushed off the presidential suggestion. “Can I actually push back on that?” he responded. “Politics has become a kind of religion. People put all their faith in a politician.” He cautioned against viewing leaders—be it Trump or Bernie Sanders—as messianic figures.
Rogan agreed in part, but defended Sanders for his ideological consistency, saying, “He’s one of the only ones who’s been remarkably consistent.” Talarico acknowledged that point, but added: “He’s still a flawed human being—just like we all are.”
The exchange comes amid growing speculation about Talarico’s political future. Seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, he is reportedly considering a long-shot bid for the U.S. Senate.
