President Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on longtime political foe Senator Adam Schiff, accusing the California Democrat of engaging in a “sustained pattern of possible mortgage fraud” — a charge that Schiff’s office has flatly denied.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division had concluded Schiff fraudulently declared a home in Maryland as his primary residence in order to qualify for more favorable mortgage terms, despite simultaneously claiming residency in California.
“I always knew Adam Schiff was a Crook,” Trump wrote. “The FRAUD began with the refinance of his Maryland property on February 6, 2009, and continued through multiple transactions until the Maryland property was correctly designated as a second home on October 13, 2020. Mortgage fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice.”
The allegation comes amid a turbulent political moment for Trump, whose base has expressed growing anger over his administration’s failure to release the long-promised Jeffrey Epstein files. Many see the attack on Schiff as a calculated move to deflect attention from mounting frustration within MAGA ranks.
Long-Standing Accusations Resurface
The issue of Schiff’s dual residency has circulated for years. In November 2023, CNN reported that the congressman and his family had lived primarily in Washington, D.C. since 2003, yet Schiff continued to claim a large estate in Maryland as his “principal residence” through multiple refinancing deals — a designation that often unlocks better mortgage rates and tax advantages.
