Mom of 2 Sons with Autism Has Limbs Amputated After Flesh-Eating Disease: ‘I Can’t Take Care of My Children’

A 39-year-old mother of two from San Diego is courageously rebuilding her life after a terrifying brush with death left her a triple amputee.

Arisbeth Muñoz went to the emergency room on December 28, expecting treatment for what seemed like a routine illness — the flu and strep throat. Instead, her condition spiraled into a nightmare. Within hours, she was in septic shock, her body overwhelmed by infection.

“That morning I was fine. By the evening, I was fighting for my life,” Muñoz wrote on a GoFundMe page created to raise funds for prosthetic limbs. Doctors told her family she wouldn’t survive the night. She was placed into a medically induced coma that lasted until February.
