NY Republican tells Democrat to ‘f— off’ after shocking House floor confrontation

But Mannion made it clear he took issue with Lawler’s presence in his proximity. According to reports from inside the chamber, the Democrat could be heard yelling: “Get over there and tell them the country is falling apart.”

His tirade escalated as he continued, “F—ing get over there and get some f—ing balls. You know who I am. I’m a New Yorker, just like you.”

Lawler, taken aback, responded later via X (formerly Twitter), condemning Mannion’s behavior: “John Mannion was entirely unhinged and unprofessional. That was a shameful display that exposed his complete lack of temperament. No wonder numerous staffers have previously alleged a toxic work environment. He should go seek help for anger management — and f— off.”

The incident adds fuel to longstanding, unverified allegations about Mannion’s workplace conduct. During his campaign for Congress, Mannion faced accusations of fostering a toxic environment while serving in the New York State Senate — claims he dismissed at the time as “false political attacks.”

Meanwhile, the Democrat’s combative mood had been apparent even before the floor outburst. According to Politico, Mannion was overheard shouting at reporters shortly beforehand: “We need you. We need you to hold them accountable. Media, it’s your country too. Don’t cover the distractions. Cover the actions that lead us towards authoritarianism, please.”

The verbal clash between the two New Yorkers comes amid an already supercharged political atmosphere on Capitol Hill. Democrats remain enraged following the forced removal of Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., from a press conference hosted earlier Thursday by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. That incident, which went viral, added to simmering tensions over the administration’s immigration enforcement actions.

Mannion, a first-term Democrat, narrowly unseated former Rep. Brandon Williams, R-N.Y., in a newly redrawn district that leaned more Democratic following redistricting last year. His victory was seen as part of the broader Democratic effort to regain ground in New York’s competitive congressional map.

Lawler, a rising Republican figure from New York, has been an outspoken critic of what he views as increasing hostility from progressive lawmakers. His office referred Fox News Digital to his pointed social media post when asked for further comment.

Fox News Digital also reached out to Mannion’s office but did not immediately receive a response.

Though brief, the dust-up between Lawler and Mannion underscored the volatile nature of today’s political climate in Congress — one in which tempers run hot and even routine floor sessions can veer into chaos with little warning.

As the House adjourns for the weekend, it remains to be seen whether cooler heads will prevail when lawmakers return next week — or whether more fireworks lie ahead.
