A Florida woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after allegedly beating a 9-year-old boy with a kitchen pot, reportedly leaving him with serious injuries after becoming angry over how he washed the dishes.
Daniela Raymond, 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday and faces one count of felony aggravated child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to a home on the 1300 block of NW 111th Street around 6 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of possible child abuse, WSVN reported. When officers arrived, they spoke with the young boy, who detailed the harrowing series of events.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by WFOR, the child told officers that Raymond became enraged because she was dissatisfied with how he had cleaned the dishes. In response, Raymond allegedly grabbed a kitchen pot and struck the boy on the head, causing a significant laceration to his scalp.
The violence allegedly didn’t stop there. Per WPLG, Raymond then ordered the boy to place his hand flat on the kitchen table and used the same pot to smash his left hand, fracturing his middle finger.
Authorities said Raymond continued the assault by hitting the boy’s arms and back with the pot and kicking him in the stomach. Officers observed visible bruises on the child’s arms, back, and stomach, according to the police report.
Raymond was questioned by detectives, but the details of her statement were redacted from the affidavit. Authorities have not yet clarified the nature of her relationship to the child.
Following her arrest, Raymond was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she remains held without bond. She pleaded not guilty during her initial court appearance on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear again in court on Thursday morning.
