Tragedy Hits Football, 18-Year-Old Player Dies Suddenly in Dorm Room

The University of Cincinnati football program is in mourning following the unexpected death of 18-year-old offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly, who passed away early Tuesday morning at his residence.

University officials have not disclosed the cause of death, and the Cincinnati Police Department has yet to provide further information.

“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” head coach Scott Satterfield said in a statement. “In the short time Jeremiah has been with our team, he made a genuine impact both on the field and in our locker room. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kelly family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.”

Prior to joining the University of Cincinnati, Kelly had a standout senior year at Avon High School, helping lead his team to a perfect 16-0 season and a state championship in 2024. He was named the Southwestern Conference Lineman of the Year and ranked among Northern Ohio’s Top 25 football prospects by The Plain Dealer.
