A Florida woman is behind bars after a horrifying domestic dispute turned deadly, leaving her husband dead and her teenage son shot — all while the family’s other child called 911 to report the chaos unfolding inside their home.
Shaneeka Daschell Harris, 39, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with second-degree murder after authorities say she fatally shot her husband, Aaron Swatts, during an argument that escalated into violence. The altercation also left her 15-year-old son with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
Police were called to the scene at around 6:40 a.m. in the Miami Gardens neighborhood, where a caller — later identified as Harris’ teenage son — urgently reported that his mother had fired a gun. As officers arrived at the townhouse on NW 46th Avenue, they noticed movement in an upstairs window and ordered the occupants to come outside.
The first to emerge was Harris’ uninjured son, who immediately told police that his younger brother had been shot. Moments later, Harris and her injured son exited the home. The teen had been struck in the right thigh and was rushed to the hospital, treated, and released later that day.
Inside the home, officers discovered Aaron Swatts unresponsive, lying in a hallway just outside a bedroom. He had been shot in the back. Despite emergency responders transporting him to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to court documents and police interviews, the violence erupted following a verbal argument between Harris and Swatts that spiraled into a physical altercation. Harris allegedly fired a warning shot before aiming at her husband and her son. Police recovered a 9mm Walther CCP handgun from the scene — a weapon with eight-round capacity that still had five live rounds in the magazine.
In the dramatic 911 call placed by her son, a woman — believed to be Harris — can be heard in the background shouting, “This man made me shoot my f—ing son.”
Investigators say both children confirmed that their mother was the one who pulled the trigger. Harris reportedly told police her husband provoked her into shooting.
Married in 2022, Harris and Swatts had no children together, though Harris is the mother of four kids from a previous relationship.
She is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as the investigation continues.
