In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Papini claims that while she lied about who abducted her, she maintains that she was, in fact, kidnapped. This assertion directly contradicts her 2022 guilty plea, where she admitted to fabricating the entire ordeal.
“There’s only one lie I told,” Papini told reporter Juju Chang. “I lied about the identity of my captor. Everything else was true.”
Initially, Papini told investigators that two Hispanic women abducted her at gunpoint. But in the recently released Investigation Discovery docuseries Sherri Papini: Caught in the Lie, she claims her former boyfriend, James Reyes, held her against her will.
