2 Young Girls Drown After Getting Trapped Under Sinking Boat, (Watch Video)

Despite the tragedy, both children were wearing life jackets, as confirmed by Texas Game Wardens, who are now leading the investigation. “This is an ongoing investigation and no further details are available at this time,” the agency stated.

Eyewitnesses also noted that water conditions were especially dangerous that evening. One local resident told ABC affiliate WFAA that the waves were so severe, they were forced to leave the lakefront. “It was so bad my daughter, my brother, and I had to leave,” the witness recalled. “The water was hitting the grass behind us.”

Rescue crews were eventually able to recover the boat and locate the girls’ bodies, according to KDFW.

Sheriff Hillhouse expressed the weight of the loss felt by all responders. “It’s always tragic when an adult drowns,” he said, “but when it’s children—two little girls—that’s just heartbreaking.”

Lieutenant Randall Newkirk, one of the first responders on the scene, spoke to the emotional toll of the incident. “The children being 3 and 5… they’re just too young,” he told KDFW. “They don’t have the strength or the lung capacity to survive something like that. I believe they were pulled into the air pocket under the hull. Sadly, it became a trap.”

Still processing the events of that night, Newkirk added: “Situations like this make you realize how precious your babies are. It shakes you. It stays with you.”

The tragedy has left the local community in mourning, and authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to the devastating loss of two innocent lives.
